In-house tool design and full material traceability

We specialise in the manufacture of high-volume brass and lead-free brass turned components for OEMs, supporting long-running, repeat programmes where process control, consistency and supply continuity are critical.

With decades of experience, we help customers reduce risk on established components while maintaining cost-effective production. Over the years we have developed special attachments to produce complicated features, eliminating costly secondary operations.

Capabilities & services

Our capabilities cover a wide range of manufacturing processes, so we can deliver high-quality parts efficiently and cost-effectively, from the first drawing to the final delivery.

Over 50 Wickman multi-spindles, from Ø8mm to Ø57mm

Multi-spindle machines are highly efficient production machines for turned components. Our average cycle time for a complete component is 36 seconds, but because each spindle produces a part, the machine delivers one every 6 seconds.

More on multi-spindle turning

CNC turning gives our customers the option to purchase low-volume items in a variety of materials. The quick setup times often mean short lead times too. Our Brownhills facility is set up for mid-range complexity items in low volume.

We offer our knowledge at the start of new projects to optimise the component design and improve cost-effectiveness. Special attachments developed in-house let us produce complicated features without costly secondary operations.

More on design for manufacture

Our main focus is to produce components in one operation. Where complex parts need features that aren't possible on a multi-spindle, our rotary transfer, press and machining centre section finishes them.

We use several trusted, local plating companies, all ISO 9001 certified and regularly audited by our quality team. Batch traceability is maintained by controlled shipments.

Every component we produce is cleaned within 2 hours of manufacture. Our semi-automated Pero plant vapour de-greases and ultrasonically cleans parts under vacuum, then vacuum dries them, without decanting them from their original container.

Our quality system, certified by BSI to ISO 9001:2015, is built on continual improvement. From simple brass nuts to highly technical parts, every component goes through stringent checks so deliveries arrive defect free.

We offer JIT deliveries by manufacturing in advance and stocking items ready for call-off. Parts can be despatched in Kanban quantities directly to the assembly line, and we deliver worldwide through our transport network.

Finished in one operation

When all the turning is done while the component is still on the bar, tolerances like concentricity are much easier to hold. Select a point on this coupling to see how we make it.

1855

Birmingham engineering for over 170 years

Currie & Warner was established in Birmingham in 1855. Multi-spindle technology has been around since the 19th century and still plays a major role in manufacturing today. So do we.

Our electrical heritage dates back to when the company was owned by the BICC group, and we were the first UK sub-contract manufacturer to machine lead-free brass. Traditional manufacturing techniques, integrated with green initiatives, set us apart.

BSI certified: ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001

Quality, environmental and occupational health and safety management systems, certified by the British Standards Institution.

Lead-free EcoBrass

Lead-free or eco brass alloys have a lead content of less than 0.1% and meet hygiene requirements worldwide, with much higher strength than conventional brass. We have worked with EcoBrass for around 15 years and developed tooling techniques to mass-produce it on our multi-spindles.
